"Mah-Jongg: The Tiles That Bind"
USA, 1998 - English
Directors: Bari Pearlman and Phyllis Heller BETA SP, 27 minutes
This light-hearted yet moving documentary explores the fundamental
role that a centuries-old Chinese game continues to have in both
the Asian- and Jewish-American communities. Mah-Jongg has become
a sub-culture for the women who play it, a bridge connecting individuals,
spanning generations, continents and cultures, and transcending
classification as merely a game.
"All I've Got"
Israel, 2002 - Hebrew with English subtitles
Director: Keren Margalit BETA SP, 62 minutes
When 72 year-old Tamara passes on, she finds herself on a ship
where she is offered a momentous choice. She can begin her life
again with her first love, who died at age 22, but will have to
give up all memories of her subsequent existence. Or she can stay
as she is, with her memories intact. This moving drama about the
road not taken has been an Audience Favorite at Film Festivals
across the country.
