U. City Police Dept. Earns Re-Accreditation
Public process occurs every three years

On July 27 the University City Police Department (UCPD) received its fourth award and third re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The awards were presented to Captain Carol Jackson and Chief Charles Adams during the Commission's summer conference in Montreal, Quebec.

The five-day public re-accreditation process occurs every three years. It includes an on-site inspection of UCPD's facilities, policies and procedures. For the third consecutive time, the Department was found to be in compliance with the mandatory 446 standards applicable to its agency category. The Hazelwood (MO) Police Department received its second CALEA award.

BackgroundThe Law Enforcement Accreditation Program was the first credentialing program established by CALEA which formed in 1984. It was originally development to address a need to enhance law enforcement as a profession and to improve law enforcement efforts. That mission continues today. The program is open to all law enforcement agencies, internationally. Accreditation provides systemic internal review and assessment, and adjustments to meet internationally accepted standards.CALEA's accreditation program requires agency compliance with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
