Spartech picks Maryland Heights for new technology center

Spartech Corp. said Monday it picked Maryland Heights as the location of its new technology and innovation center.

The new Technology and Innovation Center, a 90,000-square-foot facility at 11650 Lakeside Crossing Court now scheduled to open in late summer, will be four times the size of the company's existing research centers and employ 40 scientists, processing engineers and commercial development specialists, Spartech said.

"This location was chosen with our customers in mind, only minutes from the St. Louis airport and our corporate offices that will allow us to conveniently conduct trials, ideation sessions and training sessions with our customers," said Janet Mann, senior vice president of custom sheet and rollstock and chief technology officer, in a statement.

St. Louis-based Spartech Corp. (NYSE: SEH) produces engineered thermoplastic materials, thermoformed packaging and polymeric compounds and concentrates. The company reported profit of $8.4 million on sales of $926.8 million for fiscal 2009.
