A Weekend Getaway with a Purpose
Sign Up Now for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training

August 2, 2010 - The days are getting longer and hotter but it's not too soon to make this winter's vacation a life saver. For the experience of a lifetime you can spend the next four to five months preparing for a full or half marathon or century ride at a fabulous destination all while raising money to help fund blood cancer research.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program (TNT) is signing up runners and walkers for events at winter destinations including magical Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and warm Phoenix, Arizona! For those interested in something a little more "low-key," we'll help new runners and walkers prepare for The Race to Cure Lymphoma, a local Halloween-themed 5K/10K. Consider combining a fun vacation at a warm winter spot with the opportunity to accomplish an incredible feat and support lifesaving research.

Russ & Jen Been of Afton have made it a tradition to go to Disney every year for the past three years. This year is very special, as Russ is celebrating 5 years in remission from Hodgkin Lymphoma, including a stem-cell transplant for a subsequent diagnosis of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). "I'm extremely grateful for TNT! Not only has the team become part of my family, the research these folks help fund has saved my life!" said Russ Been. Jen, Russ' wife, is the athlete of the family, proclaiming to "run until there are no more sad stories!"

TNT, the world's first, biggest and best sports training and fundraising program, provides participants with a four-to-five month comprehensive training program, certified coaches and travel and accommodations at the venue of their choice. In return, participants help in the fight against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma by raising funds to support blood cancer research, education and services for patients and their families.

Come join us for our kickoff event on Saturday, August 14th at The Heights - Richmond Heights Community Center, 8001 Dale Ave, Richmond Heights, MO 63117. There will be an information meeting at 9:00 AM to learn more about our current events with a kickoff party immediately following.* The Race to Cure Lymphoma 5K/10K - October 30, 2010* The WALT DISNEY WORLD MARATHON WEEKEND - January 8 & 9, 2011* P.F. Chang's Rock ‘n Roll Marathon & Half Marathon - January 16, 2011

"Taking vacations that include a component for helping others in need is a growing trend," said Kobi Gillespie of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). "TNT provides participants a great opportunity to travel to a great destination while also giving them the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference in the lives of blood cancer patients."

Since Team In Training began in 1988, more than 420,000 participants have raised more than $1 billion to fund research to find cures and better therapies, and provide information and support to patients and their families.
