On Saturday, July 21, 2012, Families with Children from China (FCC) celebrated the Lantern Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The St. Louis chapter hosted families from New York, San Diego, Nashville, Kansas City, Iowa, Arizona and Pennsylvania as many were in town to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the adoption of their children from China.

June and Spencer Tan the managing directors from The LanternFest started the evening with a talk about the history of Chinese contributions to the world, the history and background of many of the lanterns at MOBOT and how the lanterns were created. The St. Louis Modern Chinese School explained and performed the tea ceremony and volunteers from Washington University's China Care Club and Lunar New Year Festival committee assisted the children with creating their own lanterns and origami creations. Alexandria Detorre-Saber from MOBOT and Jackie Kam-Blackard of FCC helped create a memorable evening as they learned about the art of the lanterns and experienced the magic at night.
