Emerson has awarded grants totaling $55,000 to 13 teachers in the St. Louis area to use for school projects.
The Gold Star Grants are awarded each year through a competitive application process open to past recipients of the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.
Winners this year include teachers from Fairmount Elementary School, Edwardsville High School, Parkway West Middle School, Highland Middle School and Bernard Long Elementary School.
The grants range from $2,500 to $10,000 each and will be used for enhancing learning areas with iPad minis, adding video spaces for students to write and produce videos and share news, purchasing lab supplies and funding field trips.
Emerson reported net earnings of $578 million on sales of $5.96 billion for its fiscal second quarter.
St. Louis-based Emerson (NYSE: EMR) reported net income of $2 billion on net sales of $24.4 billion in fiscal 2012. The company and its subsidiaries had an average of about 134,900 employees last year.
