My journey began in Shanghai, where about a hundred trip companions and I explored the city’s highlights.
At Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Factory, we learned about the Comac 919, the largest commercial airliner developed in China.
我們的旅程從上海開始, 在那裡參觀了上海飛機制造廠, 和國廠最大的商業客機-Comac 919。
We toured Pudong International Talent City, a technology incubator. Successful businessmen discussed their experiences growing companies and mentoring startups.
To cap off our stay in the city, Mayor Yang Xiong spoke to us about the city’s growth from a modest trading port to an industrial hub.
After two days in Shanghai, our group bussed over to nearby Zhejiang. We explored the waterways of Wuzhen, a village rich with traditions such as cloth dying and bean curd fermentation. We then circled West Lake on foot in Zhejiang capital’s Hangzhou.
In Zhejiang, Chairman of CPPCC Zhejiang Provincial Committee Qiao Chuanxiu gave us a warm, official welcome.
Having toured Zhejiang’s scenery, we visited Alibaba’s headquarters, during which guides discussed with us the company’s work on helping small businesses.
We sped to Beijing via bullet train in a mere five hours. At the five-star Beijing Hotel near Wang Fu Jing, all five hundred members of the Discovery trip gathered. Many had taken routes aside from the one through Shanghai and Zhejiang such as those through Sichuan or Tianjin before uniting in Beijing.
The diversity of delegates was overwhelming. I met people from many professions and backgrounds.
In Beijing, we received invitations to the Great Hall of the People, where we met dignitaries including State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Politburo Standing Committee member Yu Zhengsheng.
The leaders encouraged us to remember our Chinese roots as well as to take advantage of our special connection to China.
