Missouri Botanical Garden's 5 Millionth Plant Specimen Cathaya, "living fossil", is a national treasure in China
On November 11, the Missouri Botanical Garden celebrated the Garden's herbarium collection which reached a milestone by adding its five millionth specimen.  The specimen is Cathaya argyrophylla Chun & Kuang, representing a unique species of conifer in the pine family and known only from a limited area in China.  The program included remarks by Mr. Wei Ruixing, Consul General of China, Chicago Consulate, and Professor Lu Yong-xiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
