St. Louis, Missouri – Washington University’s Taiwanese Students Organization will be hosting a one-time, free screening of a Taiwanese animated film “On Happiness Road” along with hosting acclaimed director Wei Te-Sheng on September 18th in Simon 1 at Washington University.
“On Happiness Road” 《幸福路上》 is a new film by up-and-coming director Sung Hsin-yin. Following a long tradition of Taiwanese animation that has grown dormant in recent years, “On Happiness Road” is a compelling and powerfully moving tale of a Taiwanese-American woman’s coming of age on the eponymous road, before moving to the United States to study. After a traumatic loss, she returns to Taiwan, and the movie follows her reunions with family and friends through her own reflection and introspection over what she has left behind.
Wei Te-Sheng is one of the most acclaimed of the current generation of Taiwanese filmmakers, crafting such critically and commercially successful works as “Cape No. 7”, “Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale”, and “52 Hz: I Love You”.
This event would not be possible without the generous contributions of Mandarin House, Foundry Bakery, the Kemper Art Museum, and TAA-STL. Tickets and more event information can be accessed at: bit.ly/ohrtso.
