ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Missouri American Water has issued a boil order for 32 municipalities and parts of unincorporated St. Louis County. About 85,000 customers have been affected. They say that a power outage caused water pressure to drop in the area. The area is largely north of I-44. See the full list of affected areas below.
The water company is asking customers to bring water to a rolling boil for three minutes before drinking or cooking with it. They say that tap water is cleared for use in washing and bathing.
Missouri American notes that some customers may have already consumed water Tuesday. This is a precautionary boil order. They are required by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to issue a warning when water pressure falls below a certain level.
The boil order advisory will be in effect until tests confirm that the water is safe to drink. Missouri American Water says they will be calling customers when the boil advisory has been lifted.
