St. Louis was fortunate to have a true Shaolin master: Xing Xue

After meeting Xing Xue, Sifu Justin Meehan, who visited the Shaolin Temple in 1981, said that St. Louis was very fortunate to have a true Shaolin master willing to open a school in St. Louis.

Many young people began their studies of the Chinese martial arts because of the legends surrounding the Shaolin Temple depicted in movies and TV shows. For many Chinese martial arts enthusiasts like St. Louis City Sheriff, Richard Green, who could only fantasize of the possibility to travel to China to study at the Shaolin Temple, Xing Xue's arrival is "like a dream come true". Now our St. Louis area has the opportunity to study authentic Shaolin in our own community.

Xing Xue was taken by his father and left at the Shaolin Temple at the age of 6. Thereafter he had to submit 18 hard years of his life to the grueling regimen of traditional Shaolin Kung Fu Wu Shu. He often had to "eat bitterness" in order to excel.

Many gave up and dropped out, but Xing Xue persevered. Because of his commitment and perseverance many people in our area now have the opportunity to sample the rich heritage of traditional Chinese martial arts culture.

As St. Louis seeks to become a China hub city, China has now also come closer to us offering not just economic opportunities but authentic cultural opportunities as well. We are very fortunate that our Dr. Paul Lee, a martial art enthusiast himself, took the time to meet Xing Xue and encourage him to consider teaching in our area.
