聖誕芭蕾名劇(The Nutcracker)「胡桃夾子」聖市公演
59位本地舞者加入 三位華裔小舞星受人矚目

【時報訊】世界知名Joffrey芭蕾舞團訂12月2日至5日，在聖路易福斯(Fox)劇院演出六場聖誕芭蕾名劇「胡桃夾子」，59位七歲到十五歲聖路易本地青少年芭蕾舞者入選加入，共118位舞星之陣容，盛大演出，其中三位華裔小舞星Jessica Manning，Kaitlyn Lee和Jessica Lee姐妹受人矚目，「胡桃夾子」舞劇票價25元到75元，可洽大都會票房：314-534-1111或福斯劇院票房(547 N. Grand)預訂。
「胡桃夾子」聖誕芭蕾舞劇中需要許多洋娃娃演出及甚多大型舞蹈場面，共需要118舞者演出，其中10歲，來自Chesterfield的華裔Jessica Manning，和來自Ballwin，10歲的Kaitlyn Lee分別飾演中國娃娃，Kaitlyn的12歲姐姐Jessica則飾演老鼠及小丑二個角色。Jessica Manning是第一次在福斯劇院演出胡桃夾子劇，Jessica Lee和Kaitlyn Lee姐妹則曾分別於2007年、2009年參加演出，而他們的大姐Stephanie更是在2007年、2009年都有入選演出，這三位李家小舞星自三歲時開始學舞，在Dance Incorporated/中西表演藝術中心學習芭蕾、爵士和踢踏舞。
《胡桃夾子》是柴可夫斯基編寫的一個芭蕾舞劇。原作為E·T·A·霍夫曼的一部叫作《胡桃夾子與老鼠王》的故事。柴可夫斯基後來根據大仲馬改編的版本加譜了芭蕾舞的音樂，成為現時的所見的版本。它是聖誕節的傳統節目，它老少皆宜，而且常演不衰。是孩子們的聖誕美夢和慶祝。
劇 情
一百年前的一個聖誕節平安夜，在一個日爾曼小鎮上，斯塔爾鮑姆博士的家中舉行慶祝晚會，親朋好友紛紛來到。他家的兩個孩子克拉拉和弗裡茲帶著讚歎的眼光看著美麗的聖誕樹。參議員杜塞梅爾送給他的教女克拉拉一份特別的聖誕禮物－軍官造型的胡桃夾子。而淘氣的弟弟弗裡茲也想要這件禮物。他要在克拉拉手裡把胡桃夾子搶過去，卻不小心把它給弄壞了。克拉拉傷心得哭了，但杜塞梅爾很快又把它修好了，又笑著幫克拉拉擦乾了眼淚。入夜了，晚會結束了，客人們也陸續離去，兩個孩子也被帶到臥室去睡覺。可是克拉拉怎麼也睡不著，她偷偷下了床，輕手輕腳地下了樓梯，要去看一看她心愛的胡桃夾子。到了大廳，她找到了胡桃夾子並把它緊緊抱在懷裡爬到沙發上，沒想到朦朦朧朧就睡著了。
這時大鐘敲了十二下，大廳裡黑影聳動，突然間一大群老鼠闖進了客廳，到處亂竄，並開始攻擊克拉拉。這時老爺爺杜塞梅爾突然出現，告訴克拉拉，胡桃夾子能保護她，接著又神奇消失了。此時大廳裡閃起五顏六色的光。聖誕樹不斷長高。胡桃夾子活過來了，並領著他的一群玩具同老鼠兵作戰。但老鼠們很強大，胡桃夾子的軍隊處於劣勢。克拉拉撿起一把劍，衝向老鼠王並給了它致命的一擊。老鼠們抬著它們的國王敗走。勝負已分。
胡桃夾子也受了重傷，突然奇跡出現，胡桃夾子康復了，而且變成了一個英俊的王子，並要帶克拉拉到一座去糖果王國。他們穿過白雪覆蓋的聖誕樹林（森林之行）。兩旁來了一群雪花仙子哼著歌跳著舞（雪花圓舞曲）為他們伴行，王子和白雪皇后跳了一段的雙人舞。讓克拉拉看得如癡如醉。之後他們繼續前行。
王子與克拉拉來到了「糖果王國」宮殿。衛兵在夾道等候。王子和克拉拉乘著一輛雪橇來到宮殿前。王子向皇后講述勇敢的克拉拉如何殺死了老鼠王並救了他的命。這時，大臣出來歡迎。王子組織了一系列舞蹈以回報克拉拉。來自異國他鄉的演員陸續跳出異彩紛呈的民族舞蹈。接著花仙子伴著著名的《花之圓舞曲》跳出了一段華爾茲。
看完表演后王子送克拉拉回家，劇的最後是第二天早上克拉拉抱著心愛的胡桃夾子在沙發上醒來，發現自己做一個好夢（終曲）。

ST. LOUIS, November 3, 2010.....Jessica Manning and sisters Kaitlyn and Jessica Lee are among 118 young local dancers who will join the world-acclaimed Joffrey Ballet in Nutcracker at the Fox on December 2-5 at the historic Fox Theatre in St. Louis, in the Joffrey's exquisite nostalgic production of Tchaikovsky's holiday classic.
Dance St. Louis and Wells Fargo Advisors present Nutcracker at the Fox as part of the Wells Fargo Advisors Fox Series. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, December 2 and 3; at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 4; and at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 5. The story of the ballet will be read to children in the Fox's Marquee Room 45 minutes before every performance.
Tickets range from $25 to $75 and are available through MetroTix at 314-534-1111, online at dancestlouis.org, and all MetroTix outlets including the Fox Theatre box office at 547 N. Grand in St. Louis.
10-year-old Jessica Manning from Chesterfield will play the role of the Chinese Boy Doll. 10-year-old Kaitlyn Lee of Ballwin will play the Chinese Girl Doll, and her 12-year-old sister Jessica will be both a Cavalry Mouse and a little clown called a "Polichinelle." This is Jessica Manning's first performance in Nutcracker at the Fox, but the Lee sisters are veterans: they have both played the Chinese Girl Doll, Jessica in 2007 and Kaitlyn last year. In fact, their older sister, Stephanie, danced in Nutcracker at the Fox in 2007 and 2009. All three Lee sister started dancing when they were 3 years old, and they study ballet, tap, and jazz dance at Dance Incorporated/Midwest Performing Arts.
Nutcracker at the Fox is a celebration of children's dreams, nestled in a Victorian Americana setting. The story begins at a family Christmas party and moves to a moonlit winter forest and the magical realm of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Tchaikovsky's evergreen music is performed live by the Cambiata Singers of the Kirkwood Children's Chorale and the Ballet Orchestra of St. Louis. "You will be transported to a world of sweets and sugarplums within the majesty of the Fox Theatre," says Michael Uthoff, artistic & executive director of Dance St. Louis.
The local dancers-59 in each of the six performances-portray party guests, toy soldiers, dolls, mice, "polichinelles," and Christmas angels. The children won their roles at open auditions held in St. Louis on September 19 and have been rehearsing every weekend since then. They range in age from 7 to 15 and are from both Missouri and Illinois. They attend 88 different elementary, middle and high schools and 34 different dance schools.
Founded in 1956 by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino and now directed by Ashley Wheater, the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago is one of the premier dance troupes of the world. |
