St. Louis, MO - Nearly 1,000 linear feet of construction walls will be erected in Lambert Airport's Terminal 1 began Wednesday April 13, 2011 as the airport prepares for major renovations.
The Airport Experience Program, launched in 2008, is dedicating $70 million in renovations for Terminal 1 in an effort to dramatically makeover Lambert's facility, which was originally designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki in 1956. Renovations in Concourses A and C will continue. New roadway signs, restoration of the dome ceilings in Terminal 1, and new carousels in the terminal have already been completed.
Construction areas will be closed off on the ticketing hall, the lower level and baggage claim areas to reduce disruption and maintain a safe environment.
Improvements include:
* Relocation of C Concourse checkpoint to accommodate latest passenger screening equipment. * Introducing brighter ceiling treatments in lower level that includes programmable LED light fixtures on structural columns.
* New atrium to connect ticketing and lower levels
* New baggage claim restrooms; renovation of existing restrooms.
* New ticket counters and Terrazzo flooring on upper level Ticketing Hall
* New signage and directories.
* Introduce "St. Louis Stage," a dedicated performance area in lower level.
* Incorporate new interactive and static art displays in renovated areas.
