New exhibit space at St. Louis Science Center will be named after Boeing

        The St. Louis Science Center's new 13,000-square-foot will be named in honor of theBoeing Co., which contributed $5 million to expansion at the tax-supported institution.

        The first exhibition in Boeing Hall will be Star Trek: The Exhibition, which opens today.The space will be dedicated on Nov. 1.

        "Without Boeing's generosity, the Science Center's new exhibition hall would not bepossible," said Donna Wilkinson, chair of the center's fund-raising campaign, in aprepared statement. She said the new space will allow the center to attract travelingexhibits that could not be displayed in the previous exhibit space, a balloon-likestructure known as the Exploradome.

        A Boeing executive said in a statement that the expansion is an investment in the futureof science and technology education. "The new building will provide our region withenriching events, exhibitions and activities to help inspire the next generation ofscientists and engineers," said Dennis Muilenburg, president and chief executive of St.Louis-based Boeing Defense, Space & Security.

        Alberici Constructors completed the building earlier this fall.
