St. Louis (KSDK) -- The St. Louis Public School District is one step closer towards regaining its accreditation after a new report released by the Missouri Department of Education showed improving test scores.

The results of the 2011-2012 Missouri Assessment Program, known as MAP tests, show St. Louis students earned an extra point up to seven from last year. The students took the tests last spring.

The state reports indicated that improvements in high school math scores helped.

School districts must achieve nine of the 14 standards to get full accreditation.

Provisional accreditation could be possibility, but Missouri Education Commissioner Chris Nicastro said she will not consider a change in the district's status for at least another two years.

The Riverview Gardens School District, which is also unaccredited, met only four of the 14 standards. That's up from three points last year.

MAP test scores and APR information are available through the Department's web-based Missouri Comprehensive Data System (MCDS).
