Gov. Jay Nixon announced Mar 19, 2013 that the state of Missouri closed deals with trade organizations in Taiwan to sell $700 million in goods to Taiwanese consumers over the next four years.
Nixon, who is heading a delegation of Missouri businesses, commodity groups and education institutions on a trade trip, plans to close more export agreements in the Republic of Korea, where the delegation arrived Tuesday.
The deals closed Monday include a $200 million agreement between the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Taiwan Feed Industry Association and a $500 million agreement between the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. Nixon also met with government officials and with Taiwanese importers of Missouri products.
The exports mission has allowed Missouri businesses to close agreements with new customers. Garden City-based NeCo Seeds, for example, closed two deals that will expand the distribution of Missouri soy products throughout Taiwan, signing new agreements with two Taiwanese food distributors. The delegation visited one of NeCo Seeds' retail stores in Taipei on Sunday.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has announced $1.2 billion in trade agreements to sell Missouri products to South Korea over the next four years.
Nixon said Thursday March 21, 2013 that the state had entered into compacts with the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea-U.S. Economic Council and the Korea Importers Association.
While in Seoul, Nixon also met with South Korean government officials and laid a wreath at the Korean War Memorial. The governor says recent threats of war by North Korea's government have not stopped commerce in the region or impacted daily activities.
Nixon has been in Asia for almost a week and returned on Friday March 22, 2013. |
